How to invite more mindfulness into your life 🧘

As life get's busier and busier, it's becoming increasingly important to take time to slow our minds. We believe that Mental health is just as important as physical health, and in this blog we will zoom in on ways to invite more mindfulness into your life.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.

It's proven to reduce anxiety and helps you stay mentally healthy and happy. And even though you might only have heard of this in the last few years, Buddhists have been practicing mindfulness for over 2000 years!

5 easy ways to invite more mindfulness into your life

1. Pay attention to the world around you
Start by sitting down for 5 minutes each day and follow the 5-4-3-2-1 rule.

Acknowledge 5 things you see. 4 things you can touch. 3 things you can hear. 2 things you can smell. 1 thing you can taste.

2. Focus on the present
Often when we feel worried or anxious, it's related to something in the past or in the future.

Try and stay in the present moment.
If your thoughts start to wonder, gently bring them back to the environment around you, without judgement.

3. Realise that you're thoughts are not you
Thoughts are no more than mental events, that are made up by your mind. They do not define or control you.

Observe your thoughts as clouds, that are just floating by. There is no attachment between you and them. Acknowledge that they are there without judgement, and then release.

4. Love your body
Take time out of your day to sit quietly and observe how your body feels. A body scan is the perfect tool for this. Start at the crown of the head and slowly work your way down each body part - do you feel any sensations? are you warm or cold? are you relaxed, energetic or tired?

Nourish your body with healthy food - fuel it with the nutrition it needs.

5. Breathe deeply
Breathing is so natural to us that sometimes we forget to pay attention to it. Find a quiet spot and focus on your breath - count your inhales, pauses and exhales.

This way you leave no room for other thoughts, and you will feel more grounded through the stillness.

Hopefully this gives you some tools to invite more peace into your life.

With love,

Frya
